Research Fellow
Originally a Conservation Scientist, Meg is focused on understanding why we do the things that we do. Her interests lie in communication, conservation and biodiversity, and designing messages to motivate people to act for the environment.
Before joining BWA, Meg worked as a lecturer at Deakin University, as a Research Assistant at Deakin and the University of Melbourne, and as a Communications Professional with Conservation Futures. She also volunteered as an Educator for Wildlife Victoria and Skype a Scientist.
As a multidisciplinary researcher, Megs’ key expertise is in survey design and analysis, qualitative interviewing, focus groups, message testing, and social media content analysis. Since joining BWA in 2024, Meg has been working with the Environment portfolio to map behavioural journeys and to understand the drivers and barriers for pro-environmental behaviours.
In 2024, Meg also completed her PhD at Deakin University (in collaboration with Zoos Victoria) on how Conservation Organisations can best use images of wildlife to foster empathy to protect native Australian wildlife. Her Honours work has helped inform both the guidelines on how certain images are used and taken by zoos across the world, and international policies on wildlife tourism practices. In addition to her role at BWA, Meg is the Vice President and President Elect for ConsMark, the Conservation Marketing working group for the Society for Conservation Biology.
