Behaviour change PHD program wins major award

Behaviour change PHD program wins major award

Recognising innovation in teaching and learning

It’s great to be able to share the (good) news that the Australian Council of Graduate Research (ACGR) has awarded BehaviourWorks Director Professor, Liam Smith (pictured opposite, right) and Monash University, Professor Felix Mavondo, the Award for Excellence in Promoting Industry Engagement in Graduate Research.

The award recognises the exceptional work that the leaders have done in establishing and running the Behaviour Change Graduate Research Industry Partnership (GRIP) program, which brings talented PhD candidates together with government and industry professionals to address real-world problems.

Established in March 2018, the GRIP also responds to strong demand for behavioural experts worldwide, with 18 students initially recruited by Monash Unversity. Seventeen are now rapidly moving towards achieving their milestones.

Behaviour Change GRIP partners include VicHealth, Australia Post, Australia and New Zealand School of Government, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Environment Protection Authority (Vic), Safer Care Victoria, VicRoads and WorkSafe Victoria.

The ACGR award panel noted how the Behaviour Change GRIP candidates had benefited from a range of unique support initiatives such as skills training and professional development, industry placements, meetings with industry leaders, training on the policy process, self-directed cohort building and networking and industry liaison; whereby dedicated contacts have helped to ensure that the students’ research is exposed to the partner organisations.

Congratulations to all those involved in supporting the program, which is run out of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, and to the students themselves who have helped to make this program an award-winning success. Read more here.
