Research Fellow
Fraser is an applied behavioural scientist, with over a decade of experience, whose work in designing and evaluating intervention spans across Australia and the international landscape.
Fraser is an applied behavioural scientist with a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Psychology and a PhD in Preventative Medicine at Monash University. For nearly a decade he has worked as a Research Fellow at BehaviourWorks Australia (BWA) at the Monash Sustainable Development Institute where he uses social science research methods to help government and industry achieve positive social, environmental and health outcomes.
Fraser has strong research capabilities in developing and evaluating behaviour change interventions. He has designed and evaluated numerous interventions across a range of areas including health (e.g., immunisation, safety), environment (e.g., waste, energy) and compliance (e.g., business, transport). He also spends much of his time conducting formative research, including literature and practice reviews, survey, interview and observational research to better understand problems and identify drivers and barriers to desirable behaviours.
While the vast majority of projects have been conducted within Australia, Fraser’s international presence is growing with an increased interest in pursuing projects that focus on a developing world context (e.g., using behavioural science to improve health and environmental outcomes in informal settlements).
In addition to conducting research, Fraser also plays an active role in the development and delivery of education and training. As one of BWA’s lead trainers, he regularly runs workshops for the public and private sector and lectures into “Understanding human behaviour to influence change”, a masters unit recognised for excellence by Monash University.
In recent years, Fraser has combined his research and training expertise by running intensive training programs that work with the client to support them in conducting their own behaviour change project, from understanding a problem through to developing and evaluating their own behaviour change interventions.
